As the final two programmes of the year leave the building, the Daisybeck team are preparing for a well-earned Christmas break.
It’s been a fabulous year and we would like to thank all our commissioners and colleagues at Channel 5 and Channel 4 for all their wonderful support as we’ve worked together on more than 30 hours of television!
December saw 5 new programmes on air: Harrogate: A Great Yorkshire Christmas (2 X 1 hours for Channel 5), Britain’s favourite Biscuit (1 X 90 for Channel 5), The Yorkshire Vet at Christmas (1 X 60 for Channel 5) and The Greatest Christmas Lights in the World: From Liverpool to Bethlehem (1 X 60 for Channel 4).
Managing Director, Paul Stead said “I want to say a massive thank you to all the brilliant team of freelancers that have dedicated their time, passion and professionalism to our output this year. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to come to work with the best in the business and I’m really proud of them all for what they have achieved. Winning the RTS Indie Spirit Award for the second year running in the summer gave us the boost to continue to create ratings winning programmes from The Yorkshire Vet to our ground breaking film about The Christmas Decorators from Liverpool who light up the Holy Land where Christmas began.
We’ve got some really exciting new ideas in the melting pot for next year but for me the highlight of 2017 came when Channel 5 committed to 40 more episodes of The Yorkshire Vet across 2018 and 2019. We’ve come a long way with this amazing series and I want to extend my personal gratitude to Series Editor Lou Cowmeadow, Senior PD David Terry and PD Laura Blair for their incredible commitment to this passion project. Supporting Lou and the team is a long list of amazingly talented people and each one makes a massive contribution to the success of the series.
I also want to pay tribute to Peter and Julian and everyone at Skeldale Veterinary Centre. We started out with an agreement to produce 6 little episodes. When our Christmas Eve special transmits this year, we will have made 49 episodes in two years. Not bad going. Not bad at all. The challenge is to keep the show fresh and there are some very exciting plans and developments ahead in the new year. It’s not going to be easy – but nothing that’s brilliant ever is. It’s all about team work and I’m thankful for the superb team at Daisybeck who live, breathe and sleep The Yorkshire Vet.
So bring on the new year, with 2 new series of The Yorkshire Vet and some very, very exciting new shows that our Development team are cooking away in the ideas kitchen that are all about ready to serve.
Here’s wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year!”
