Christmas starts in the late spring at Manchester’s Intu Trafford Centre. It’s the most competitive and important sales period of the year and the centre has to compete for festive shoppers from across the north and online websites.
Events manager Nikki Tansey is in charge for the first time. The pressure is on with a six figure budget and a small army to help deck the malls at of one of the biggest shopping centres’ in Britain.
With 50 miles of fairy lights and enough baubles to fill an olympic swimming pool, Nikki head to the capital of Christmas decorations is in Huddersfield. Here it really is Christmas every day for the staff of KD Decoratives who supply many of the shopping centres’ in the country.
Nikki has set her sights on getting a big star to perform at the Christmas Lights switch on in front of a crowd of 10,000 but will she get her girl?
The documentary also goes behind the scenes of a pioneering new TV commercial that Nikki’s bosses at Intu head office hope will increase the public awareness of the brand. It’s a huge investment but will the Manchester team agree with their London colleagues or will there be a less than festive fall out over the idea?

The huge installation of around £1m worth of decorations which have been cleaned, polished and packed gets underway over 10 nights. This is a military operation, timing, precision are a must and there no room for tiredness especially as over a hundred riggers, designers and engineers have to be out of the centre by opening time.
